Associate Vice President, Office for Equal Opportunity and Civil Rights

The University of Virginia has announced the appointment of Emily Springston as associate vice president, Office for Equal Opportunity and Civil Rights.

Springston has served as Indiana University’s director of institutional equity and Title IX since 2018, and as the university Title IX coordinator since 2014. She will assume her position at UVA March 1.

Dean, School of Nursing

The University of Virginia has named international scholar and nursing leader Marianne Baernholdt as the new dean of the School of Nursing.

Special Advisor to the Executive Vice President & Chief Operating Officer

Melissa Wolf Riley joins UVA’s Office of the Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer as Special Advisor.  Melissa is an experienced attorney who has lived and worked in the Charlottesville area for over 20 years.  A graduate of Washington & Lee University and University of Richmond School of Law, she spent 15 years with the law firm of McGuireWoods LLP, where she provided a broad range of litigation and consulting services to clients in many areas of the law while also focusing on employment law and the health and education industries.

Director of Athletics

Carla Williams has been named the University of Virginia’s director of athletics, President Teresa A. Sullivan announced Sunday. Williams has been an athletics administrator at the University of Georgia for the past 13 years, most recently serving as the deputy director of athletics since 2015. In her role as deputy director of athletics at Georgia, Williams was responsible for the day-to-day operations of the department and its $127 million budget.

Vice President for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

University of Virginia President Jim Ryan today announced the appointment of Kevin G. McDonald as vice president for diversity, equity and inclusion. An experienced administrator with a proven track record of advancing initiatives that help universities be diverse, vibrant and welcoming communities, McDonald is currently the vice chancellor for inclusion, diversity and equity at the University of Missouri-Columbia and the chief diversity, equity and inclusion officer for the University of Missouri system. He will assume the top leadership post on Aug. 1.

Workday Financials Implementation Lead

As the Workday Financials Implementation Lead, Jackie is responsible for providing overall leadership and subject matter expertise in the implementation of Workday Financial Management, as well as managing the technical aspects of the project including business process configuration, integrations & conversions, and tenant management.
