Executive Director of Strategic Advancement for Batten

Elinor (Ellie) Tappé serves as Executive Director of Strategic Advancement where she helps shape and realize the strategic objectives of the Batten School. With a 25-year history in strategic planning and development, Ellie has held a variety of leadership roles in the corporate sector, as well as higher education and nonprofit. Her experience in philanthropy spans more than a decade and includes UC Berkeley, Larkin Street Youth Services and Urban Teachers. 

Dean, School of Continuing and Professional Studies

The University of Virginia announced today that Melissa M. Lubin has been appointed the dean of the School of Continuing and Professional Studies, effective Sept. 19. Lubin is currently the dean of the School of Professional & Continuing Education and chief economic engagement officer at James Madison University.

Director of Development, Frank Batten School of Leadership and Public Policy

Alexandra (Alex) Moore is the Vice President of Philanthropy for the YMCA of Greater Richmond. Alex began her career at the YMCA six years ago as the Director of Stewardship and Annual Giving and later as Senior Director of Development. Prior to the Y, Alex was at Virginia Commonwealth University as Director of Stewardship for VCU Athletics then as Assistant Director of Donor Relations for the Office of Development and Alumni Relations. She is a graduate of James Madison University and received her master’s in Sports Leadership from VCU.

Executive Director, Batten Institute

The University of Virginia Darden School of Business has announced that Omar Garriott will join the School as executive director of the Batten Institute. Garriott will formally begin the role 1 September.

A successful corporate intrapreneur, venture founder and author with leadership experience in a variety of major technology firms, Garriott will lead the institute in supporting Darden’s mission to improve the world by developing responsible leaders through unparalleled transformational learning experiences.

Dean of the College and Graduate School of Arts & Sciences

Christa D. Acampora has been appointed the dean of the College and Graduate School of Arts & Sciences, effective Sept. 1.

Acampora, born in Roanoke and raised in Dublin, Virginia, is currently deputy provost and professor of philosophy at Emory University in Atlanta. Prior to Emory, she was a member of the faculty at Hunter College and the City University of New York’s Graduate Center and served as Hunter’s associate provost for faculty affairs and research.

Associate Dean for Inclusion, Diversity, Equity & Accessibility - UVA Library

Catalina Piatt-Esguerra is the new Associate Dean of Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility at UVA Library. She previously served as the Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) at UVA's School of Education & Human Development’s. In this inaugural role, she co-led the design, launch, and operation of DEI-focused professional development workshops, program suites, and community-building opportunities for the School’s community of 1200+ students (online and in-person) and 300+ faculty and staff.
