Catalina Piatt-Esguerra is the new Associate Dean of Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility at UVA Library. She previously served as the Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) at UVA's School of Education & Human Development’s. In this inaugural role, she co-led the design, launch, and operation of DEI-focused professional development workshops, program suites, and community-building opportunities for the School’s community of 1200+ students (online and in-person) and 300+ faculty and staff.
Kristina Richardson joins UVA's Democracy Initiative this fall as the John L. Nau Professor of History and Middle Eastern and South Asian Languages and Cultures. Previously, she was Associate Professor of History at Queens College and The Graduate Center of the City University of New York.
Richardson's research interests include non-elite people in the medieval Middle East; manuscript studies; race and labor; and craftsmanship.
The University of Virginia announced Wednesday that Stephanie J. Rowley, an alumna of UVA, has been appointed the dean of the School of Education and Human Development.
Rowley is provost, vice president for academic affairs and dean at Teachers College, Columbia University, in New York, where she holds a tenured appointment as a professor of psychology and education.
She previously earned both a master’s degree and doctorate in developmental psychology from UVA’s Graduate School of Arts & Sciences.
The University of Virginia has named international scholar and nursing leader Marianne Baernholdt as the new dean of the School of Nursing.

Johann Reinicke will join the Arts & Sciences (A&S) Dean’s office team as the Director of Data Analytics & IT Support. Johann is a local to Charlottesville, having grown up in Batesville, and has served the University in multiple capacities over the past 15 years. He started his career in IT support, worked as a Finance Lead for Student Financial Services, was a Scrum Master and Team Lead for the Managerial Reporting Project, and most recently served as Manager, People Analytics & UVA HR Deputy Data Steward.
