Damian Doyle

Associate Vice President & Deputy Chief Information Officer

Damian Doyle is the Deputy CIO and Senior Associate Vice President at UMBC's Division of Information Technology. He oversees UMBC's cyber infrastructure, which includes networking, systems infrastructure, cloud architecture, research computing, classroom technology, and computing support. Recently, he served as the Interim Chief Information Security Officer for UMBC for over a year and a half, helping to restructure the IT security program, including designing and implementing the institution's first comprehensive IT risk assessment.

Nationally, Damian is highly engaged with organizations like EDUCAUSE, Internet2, and the National Science Foundation. He has served as faculty for EDUCAUSE’s Senior Director Institute and their online Management Program and currently chairs the EDUCAUSE National Recognition Committee. Within Internet2, he chairs the Cloud Services Architecture Advisory Committee, co-chairs a track of the annual Technology Exchange conference, and is a long-standing member of the Higher Education Cloud Forum planning committee.

At UMBC, Damian spearheaded the institution's transition to a cloud-first organization in 2016, leading modernization efforts across campus enterprise, research, and communications systems. His design and oversight of organizational restructurings have ensured that IT remains aligned with the institution's evolving strategic goals and priorities. Damian's active involvement with UMBC's Center for Women in Technology (CWIT) is a testament to his commitment to an equitable and inclusive culture for all students and has resulted in a robust internship pipeline between CWIT and DoIT. His leadership style, centered on shared governance and collaboration, is evident in his two terms as the president of the staff senate and his chairmanship of the state-wide Maryland Research and Education Network. Committed to advancing the university's research mission, Damian has served as Co-PI and PI on multiple National Science Foundation grants and recently helped develop a long-term roadmap for research computing support and services at UMBC.

Damian holds a B.S. in Computer Science and an M.S. in Information Systems from UMBC. He was the recipient of the EDUCAUSE Rising Star award in 2018 and the UMBC Presidential Staff Award in 2022.
